Winter is over! Well, sort of. The Spring Equinox does not officially occur until March 20 this year, and here in Durango, winter weather has known to be historically highest in the month of March, but as far as our build season is concerned, we have made it through the coldest part of the year, the skies are sunny, days are getting longer, and we are beginning to fill up for the year! We are normally booked into Fall by the end of March, and this year isn’t much different, however we have expanded our build capacity and this means that we will be able to fit in three more builds this spring and summer. So, if you are interested in one of these highly desirable build slots, please call 970.335.9577 or email greg @ rockymountaintinyhouses.com

Love your house ! How are they rated compared to a travel trailer ? For housing sites or camping sites ? Do they need license plates?
Greg Parham says
They are heavier than travel trailers, but fully mobile. Yes, you have to register them annually like a car.

I am looking to purchase land in Red Feather Lakes area and will be in the market for a tiny home possibly in the next year. Something that withstand winter. Any suggestions?
Greg Parham says
Hi Renee, all of builds are constructed to withstand Colorado winters. We have a customer with a tiny house up at Red Feather currently! What is more important to figure out initially is your budget and how much space you will need.

We are interested in a tiny home with a bedroom on the main level because I have a terminal lung condition and cannot go upstairs. We need to use non toxic materials and no carpet at all. We also want to go solar. We love to cook so we want a full size kitchen with a gas stove and full size fridge. A farmers sink would be nice. Lots of windows and light so we don’t feel closed in. If we could get a 10ft by 30 ft that would be fantastic. I have breathing issues so tight places make me feel claustrophobic so a 10ft would be much better than 8 ft. We are living in a 600 sq ft loft apartment now and I know we meet at least 400 sq ft living space total. We would love to have a dish washer but it can be a smaller one. We also would love to have a small green house. We would like a loft for guests. We need a walk-in shower because I cannot breath the fumes from cleaning products so if it is open and not enclosed with a glass wall that would help me a whole lot. I know that seems like a lot to ask but we are retired and this is going to be our home. We are not going to move so we don’t want to do this again.
What will this cost us? We plan on financing part of this, and paying cash for the other part.
Thanks for your help!
Melody
Greg Parham says
Hi Melody,
Price varies depending on project complexity and finish out. I can tell you at the high level we build to, 8×30’s usually cost around 80k. Going 10′ will probably bump that closer to 90k. It is possible to bring cost closer to 75k using cheaper finishes, but it is the cheaper finishes that tend to have more off gassing, for example using plywood or sheetrock vs solid wood tongue and groove. Shoot us an email or a phone call for more info.

Where in Durango can I buy property to put a tiny home (built by you guys of course?)?
Greg Parham says
just about anywhere except the animas valley or subdivisions with convenants against them. Best to work with a realtor for more advice

I’m looking to build. Wondering what a shell with all custom winsdows, roofing, wiring and plumbing would cost if you do such things?
Greg Parham says
Depends on size, complexity, and material finish out. Email or call us for more info!

How about if I have concrete slab to put one of the houses on. Is that even possible with your design?
Greg Parham says
it is possible to build just about any tiny house on a slab-we personally cannot do it though since we are only setup to build from our shop, i.e. we cannot travel to site builds.
Ellen Garland says
Do you only build in the Spring through fall? I plan on moving there next summer and would like to have the house ready. I will be out there in September and would like to talk to you about my house, floor plan, cost etc. I plan on placing the house on my daughter’s land up on the mesa. Thanks for any information

We build year round, things just slow down in the colder months.

I wanted to show my family what your tiny houses are all about. Do you let people come and look at what your working on or do we have to schedule an appointment? How does that work?
Greg Parham says
People are allowed to visit the shop with an appointment, min 1 day notice. We are open M-F 9-4

Hi Greg;
I say your You tube video on the San Juan and I love everything about it. Firstly do you have plans
for that house that you sell and secondly, can the bed be raised electronically or build as a downstairs sleeping/sitting area? Also is there a way to extend the deck to the right side of the house to allow for plants and more seating??
Greg Parham says
Hello! We do not currently have plans available for this build. The elevator bed can be electric, or could be made into a fixed downstairs bedroom. The deck could be enlarged too.
Cheers!
